The Diabetes Foundation supports patients who are unable to pay for diabetes medications or supplies – due to financial hardship – by paying for these goods on their behalf. The DFI is the only agency in New Jersey providing this short –term medical assistance to diabetics in need.This short-term emergency assistance is limited to a six-week period. Applications for medical assistance are only accepted from approved doctors or social workers from DFI’s Statewide Medical Assistance Network which is listed below. Applications received directly from individuals are not accepted.

The application is first reviewed by a Diabetologist for approval of the medication or supplies to be dispensed and then reviewed for approval based on the applicant’s financial need.

Upon receipt of the relevant prescriptions, the medications and supplies are ordered and shipped directly to the patient at no cost to the applicant. We ask that generic equivalents be prescribed whenever possible. Turn-around time from the initial application to delivery of the goods can be same day.
